Lubbock Business Update: Leprino Foods and New Openings

Lubbock Business Roundup: Exciting Developments and New Ventures

Hello A-J readers! This week has been bustling with activity in the Lubbock business community, showcasing a blend of new openings, significant updates, and a few closures. Let’s dive into the highlights that have shaped the local economic landscape over the past week.

Business Announcements: A Mixed Bag

On Monday, the September business roundup was published, revealing a total of 14 business announcements. This included seven new openings, two closures, and five rumored confirmations. While this marks a decrease from the 22 listings reported in September 2023, it still reflects a vibrant business environment in Lubbock.

For those interested in the specifics, you can read more about these changes in the detailed report here.

A Sweet New Addition: Bread & Jam

One of the most exciting new ventures is the opening of Bread & Jam, located at Chicago Station, 5507 126th St., #211. This charming bakery is a collaboration between Kelle Barnard of Kelle B Jammin’ and Todd Hassell of The Bread & The Bees. Their mission is to provide the community with fresh, locally made baked goods, and they are already making waves with their delectable offerings.

During my visit, I was struck by the warm atmosphere and the delightful aroma of freshly baked bread. The partnership aims to evoke memories of international and home-cooked meals, making it a must-visit for anyone in the area. For more on this delightful new shop, check out the full feature here.

Leprino Foods Update: New Timeline Announced

This weekend brought significant news regarding Leprino Foods Company and its factory in East Lubbock. Initially slated to begin full operations by the end of 2024, the timeline has now been adjusted. Officials confirmed that Phase 1 will commence in early 2025, with full operations expected to begin in 2026.

This update is crucial for the local economy, as Leprino Foods is a major player in the food industry. I had the opportunity to ask Leprino communications officials several questions about the factory’s impact on local traffic, community involvement, and hiring processes. The insights gathered are detailed in two articles published this weekend: one focusing on employment opportunities and wages, and another exclusive piece for subscribers that delves into the specifics of the factory’s operations. New Therapy and Cafe Openings

In addition to the bakery, Lubbock welcomed 806 Family Therapy at 8008 Slide Road, Suite 14, and Tech Café at 6810 Milwaukee Ave., Suite 100, this past Wednesday. 806 Family Therapy is operated by a team of Texas Tech University graduates dedicated to addressing the relational and mental health needs of the community. They are currently accepting new clients, and more information can be found on their website here.

Meanwhile, Tech Café is making a return under the same management as the former location on 50th Street, which closed in late 2023. This reopening is a welcome addition for those seeking a cozy spot to enjoy quality coffee and food.

Yesway Expands Its Footprint

In another development, Yesway, the parent company of Allsup’s, has confirmed that a new location is under construction at 9704 U.S. Highway 87. This expansion reflects the growing demand for convenience stores in the area and is expected to enhance accessibility for local residents.

Looking Ahead

As we move into next week, I plan to visit two farms and gather updates on several anticipated openings throughout October. The Lubbock business scene is ever-evolving, and it’s exciting to witness the growth and changes happening in our community.

Thank you for your continued support and for following along with the latest business news in Lubbock. Stay tuned for more updates, and as always, thank you for reading the A-J!
