USF Finance Student Fabio Favari Secures Internship at Goldman Sachs in New York

The Inspiring Journey of Fabio Favari: From Brazil to Wall Street

A Dream Driven by Education

In the vibrant city of Tampa, Florida, a remarkable story unfolds within the walls of the University of South Florida (USF). Fabio Favari, a junior finance student, embarked on an extraordinary journey from Brazil to the United States, fueled by a singular purpose: education. His story is not just about academic pursuit; it’s about resilience, ambition, and the transformative power of community.

Choosing USF: A Cost-Effective Pathway

When it came time to choose a university, Favari faced a pivotal decision. "USF was the most cost-effective option," he explains, emphasizing the university’s generous scholarships for Latino students that made his dream of studying abroad more attainable. The Muma College of Business, known for its strong reputation, quickly became his first choice. This decision marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life, one filled with opportunities and challenges.

A Passion for Finance

Favari’s passion for finance was evident long before he set foot on USF’s campus. Growing up in Brazil, he explored various fields, from aerospace engineering to medicine. However, he soon realized that finance was the thread that could weave together all his diverse interests. "As I looked into specific careers, I saw finance as a way of combining all my industry interests and negating my indecisiveness while being able to solve meaningful problems," he reflects. This clarity of purpose would guide him through his academic journey.

Navigating New Waters

Despite his enthusiasm, the transition to life in the U.S. was not without its hurdles. Favari experienced homesickness and faced the daunting task of adjusting to a new educational system. "The first week of school was a little crazy for me. School here is very different than where I’m from in Brazil. It’s very autonomous here. Brazil is a little more structured," he shares. This adjustment period tested his resolve, but Favari was determined to immerse himself in the USF community.

Finding Community and Opportunity

To combat his feelings of isolation, Favari participated in USF’s Week of Welcome, where he discovered a plethora of clubs and organizations. Among them was the Investment Club, which piqued his interest due to its reputation and accomplishments. After conducting thorough research, he decided to apply for membership, a choice that would prove to be pivotal in his academic and professional journey.

Once he joined the club, opportunities began to unfold rapidly. "I was surprised by how fast internship offers and professional opportunities came to me once I joined," he recalls. The club provided a supportive environment where he could connect with like-minded peers and industry professionals.

A Stepping Stone to Success

Favari’s involvement in the Investment Club led to a significant milestone: securing an internship with Star Mountain Capital during the summer after his freshman year. This experience was transformative, allowing him to hone the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in finance. Over the next year and a half, he continued to build on this foundation, ultimately leading to his most recent achievement—an internship at Goldman Sachs in New York.

"My goal was always to make my way to New York for a position in finance," Favari states, reflecting on his aspirations. After navigating a rigorous interview process, including a demanding three-day virtual "super day," he received an internship offer from Goldman Sachs, set to begin this summer.

A Vision for the Future

As he prepares for this exciting opportunity, Favari is focused on making the most of his internship. "I am going to put the most education and effort that I can into my internship this summer," he asserts. His ambition doesn’t stop there; he aims to return to Goldman Sachs as a full-time hire after graduation in 2026.

Favari attributes much of his success to the experiences he gained at Star Mountain Capital and the connections he made through the USF Investment Club. He emphasizes the importance of networking and mentorship in navigating the competitive finance landscape. "The network developed through the investment club was key," he explains, noting how he maintained relationships with USF finance alumni to build connections with New York-based companies.

The Power of Collaboration

Favari believes in the strength of collaboration and community support. "You can be involved with as many clubs and organizations as you want. You can go to as many recruiting events as you want, but what made the difference for me was the person on the other side of the situation lending a hand to me and helping guide me in the right direction," he reflects. This cycle of support is crucial; he recognizes that the help he received was a result of others paying it forward.

"I plan to go help someone after me," he adds, highlighting his commitment to giving back to the community that has supported him.

A Testament to Passion and Persistence

As Fabio Favari continues his journey at USF, his story stands as a testament to the strength of the university’s finance community and the myriad opportunities available to students who combine passion with persistence. His journey from Brazil to Wall Street is not just about personal achievement; it embodies the spirit of collaboration, mentorship, and the transformative power of education. As he looks to the future, one thing is clear: Fabio Favari is just getting started, and his aspirations are as boundless as his determination.
