TDI-Brooks Wraps Up Geotechnical Survey in Turkey

TDI-Brooks Completes Fifth Geotechnical Investigation in the Black Sea

TDI-Brooks, a prominent U.S.-based marine services company, has recently marked a significant milestone by completing its fifth geotechnical investigation for DenAr Ocean Engineering in the Black Sea. This achievement underscores the company’s expertise in marine geotechnical and offshore survey projects, further solidifying its reputation in the industry.

The Mission: Geotechnical Investigation

The geotechnical investigation conducted by TDI-Brooks involved a comprehensive array of methodologies designed to assess the seabed conditions in the Black Sea. The operation was facilitated by the RV NAUTILUS, which was dispatched from the U.S. East Coast specifically for this mission. The investigation included a total of 49 geotechnical Cone Penetration Tests (gCPTs), 50 Jet Penetration Tests (JPCs), 48 standard Cone Penetration Tests (CPTs), and 41 Borehole Cone Penetration Tests (BCs). These tests are crucial for understanding the geological and geotechnical properties of the seabed, which are essential for the planning and execution of offshore projects.

Environmental Component

In addition to the geotechnical assessments, TDI-Brooks incorporated an environmental component into the investigation. This aspect included 27 Environmental Borehole Cone Penetration Tests (BCs), 28 Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) measurements, 19 water samples, and an impressive 180 kilometers of marine fauna transects. This comprehensive approach not only provides insights into the geological conditions but also ensures that environmental considerations are taken into account, aligning with best practices in marine project management.

A Comprehensive Range of Services

TDI-Brooks is well-known for its extensive range of marine geotechnical survey services, which cover offshore, nearshore, and inland regions. The company’s expertise allows it to cater to a variety of sectors, including offshore renewables and energy. By offering a full suite of services, TDI-Brooks positions itself as a one-stop solution for clients seeking reliable and detailed marine survey data.

Fleet of Oceanographic Research Vessels

To support its operations, TDI-Brooks owns and operates five oceanographic research vessels that are available on the spot market. Among these vessels, the RV BROOKS McCALL and RV MISS EMMA McCALL are U.S. registered and compliant with the Jones Act, enabling them to service the U.S. East and West Coasts, as well as the Gulf of Mexico and Mexico. On the other hand, the RV GYRE, RV PROTEUS, and RV NAUTILUS (DP2) are registered in Vanuatu and are fully compliant with SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) regulations, allowing them to serve clients globally.

These multi-use vessels are designed for a wide variety of oceanographic research duties, making them versatile assets in the offshore renewables and energy sectors. Their capabilities ensure that TDI-Brooks can meet the diverse needs of its clients, whether they are conducting geotechnical surveys, environmental assessments, or other marine research activities.

Conclusion

The successful completion of the fifth geotechnical investigation in the Black Sea is a testament to TDI-Brooks’ commitment to excellence in marine services. By combining advanced geotechnical methodologies with environmental assessments, the company not only delivers critical data for offshore projects but also prioritizes ecological considerations. With a robust fleet of oceanographic research vessels and a comprehensive range of services, TDI-Brooks continues to be a leader in the marine geotechnical survey industry, poised to tackle the challenges of the ever-evolving offshore landscape.
